Amy Winehouse earned her ghetto pass

Although Amy has been besieged

by the media in recent weeks,

she gets much love and support

from the black community.

Many African americans can relate to Amy's alleged drug

use,her relationship with her

husband, and her deep sensuous

vocals. Amy's ride to super stardom

has been a gradual process.

Although she was well known in the UK where she's from, she's only become a household name this year In America. While observing Amy at the blacklily festival this past summer, I noticed the crowd reacting thunderously to this tiny ball of fire. She surprised everyone by showing up.
I had no idea who this 100 pound cuttie was. I though she was a punk rocker.

While shooting photography for the event, I asked a fan who she was.

She looked dismayed that I didn't know. "That's Amy Winehouse."

The audience was about 80% black

and they were going crazy when Amy performed.

After her 2nd and last song, the crowd wanted more of Amy,

however it was a showcase and a two song limit.

If it wasn't for Jill Scott getting an award from Blacklily, Amy

would have stolen the show.

She made out better and walked away with her ghetto pass from Philly.
