Is he or isn't he? Retired!
That is the big question for
World renown snowboarder
Keir Dillon. Keir's been snowboarding for years
and it seems father time has caught up to
this resilient pro.
Although Keir can still hang with the
young groms, it's getting more difficult to pull off back to back 1080's
in competitions. That's what Kat's like Mason Aguirre,Danny Davis, and Dan Kass are doing.
Although Keir was a product of the Pocono mountain
region, He didn't let this deter him from becoming one of the best known and most liked snowboarders in the World.
Every contest I've covered in the Industry, Keir has the following of the crowds.
It's rare that someone from small town East Stoudsburg even made
it to the World circuit of snowboarding.
It's like the equivalent of Kelly Slater learning how to surf in small wave Cocoa Beach.
Stroudsburg isn't the mecca of learning how to snowboard, like
Vermont or Mammoth is, however Keir over acheived to
become the Jackie Robinson of snowboarding.
.
There is know doubt he is the greatest black snowboarder to ever
strap on his bindings on a snowboard. Let's keep it real. No one has
ever reached heights that he has while riding the super-pipe or half
pipe. It's possible no other black kid will even come close to
acheiving his accomplishments ever again unless they move to
Vermont or Mammoth California, and enroll into one of their
schools which focuses on making star athletes in the snowboarding
industry.
.
The bar has been set really high and kids are doing insane tricks,
which leaves no room for your average self taught snowboarder
to come to the U.S. Open and expect to make a name
for himself. It may happen once or twice, but not with the
regularity that was in previous years.
.
Be on the look out for Keir to be guest hosting on The Daily Habit on
Fuel TV. Keir is also the report/host for the Winter and Summer X
games and numerous International Burton events. Keir brought a
sense of swagger and confidence that other snowboarders feared
because they knew they were going to have to fly a little higher
or reach a little deeper to beat Keir on any given day. Thanks to
Keir, he also brought a sense of brotherhood to a Industry
that was once pearly white.
